I want to share a true and powerful story with you - about the Goddess and the Gardener. Although it's my story, my experience, the essence of its truth and power may resonate with you too. You could be forgiven for thinking the two photos on the right are of two different women; they represent two aspects of myself. The Gardener is the organiser, the doer. She plots and plants, takes action, uses her busy, productive mind to grow great things in my life. But, when left alone to run my life, she over-does things, over-plans, strives and over-reaches for results, and burns herself out. The Gardener in me - and maybe in you - is the achiever, the go-for-it hard worker, the multi-tasker, the solution finder. She has her place, has her strengths and has built and created many great things for me, my family and in my working life. Although I am grateful for her strength and power, letting her lead my life often comes at a cost. I can get cranky, irritated and out of balance. I can become resentful and disconnected from my inner self, my inner voice, my intuition and those I love. I can lose sight of what really matters because my sights are set on the horizon of results and outcomes rather than the here and now. Here and now is where my Goddess self lives. She is calm and wise and lets things sit in her body and being before making big decisions. She feels her way through life and waits for the right moment to make her move. She is patient, in tune with nature and its rhythms, and understands most things have their own 'ripe timing,' She is my intuition, my deepest truth, my joy and my reminder to say YES to life's precious moments IN THE MOMENT. She sometimes slows me down with illness or injury and reminds me to soften, be gentler on myself and others, open me to receiving love, abundance and all life has to offer. She brings me to tears of joy and brings me to my knees with deep gratitude for the simple, powerful truths she reveals in the deeper soil of my life, below its busy surface. It's hard to find a negative trait within my Goddess self; again it's more about being out of balance. What I have noticed is, when I live too deeply in her essence, I don't get much done! She's divine to take into a silence retreat, meditation, a massage and ocean swims, but there have been times when I've let her lead my life and lost touch with some of my basic day-to-day responsibilities. Once upon a time I lived almost all of my life as a busy Gardener, doing and planning and striving to grow myself, my work, my life. I'd only 'retreat' to my Goddess self when I was desperate for time-out, for me-time, for silence away from this busy life I was creating. Over time, I began to integrate more of my Goddess self into everyday life. I started to trust her voice, her wisdom, her intuition. I let her into more moments, more parts of my life. She began to feel her way into every facet of my life. Once a friend I used to visit, she became someone I embraced, then finally embodied. |
Since I began LifeGardening in late 2019, I've realise that LIFE IS RICHEST when I live it with my WHOLE SELF - my Gardener and my Goddess self! This is what life started to look and feel like...
